Join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks!
This year will be my 8th year running the NYC marathon, and I am raising funds to support a cause that is incredibly important to me, with Autism Speaks. As some of you know, both of my nephews, Dexter and Max, fall on the spectrum. While each day offers its only set of challenges for both Dexter and Max, I can confidently say that I have learned more from them than anyone else in my life.
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 59 children is on the autism spectrum.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span.
Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for the future.
Thank you for helping me reach my goal. Your support is greatly appreciated!
There will be no Angels Run in 2018
We would like to take a moment to express our sincere appreciation for the lasting support shown for our cause the Light up the Room Foundation and Angels Run. This year we have made a decision not to hold the Angels Run due to life being busy. This is our 10th year for the foundation and 10th season a Rust will run the NYC marathon in memory of Karen and to benefit a cause.
Originally, we set out as goals to raise funds for cancer research and over the years have raised well in excess of $100,000 dollars to our cause. Overtime we have shifted our focus to
rotate between cancer research and raising funds for autism research. This year Brandon is running to raise funds for Autism Speaks you can find out more about why here on his link for

Finally, we are considering having a fun day at the end of September or early October. We have yet to decide what type of event and would appreciate it if you took a minute to complete a survey on dates and events of interest, here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WKV2DQY
It has been an amazing journey that without your support we would not have been able to navigate. Most importantly with heartfelt gratitude we want to thank you for taking interest and caring about the causes that inspire us.
All the best and much love, the Rust’s
